Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets announced Thursday that right winger Mitch Woods is expected to be back in the Fort Wayne lineup Friday night when the Komets host the Quad City Mallards at 8pm.
Woods, 23, has been practicing with the Komets the past couple weeks and will see his first action of the season. He skated 12 games last year with Cincinnati of the ECHL (1 goal, 3 points, 41 penalty minutes) after appearing with the Komets his rookie season 2007-08 scoring 15 goals, 36 points and 297 penalty minutes and capturing the IHL Turner Cup Championship playing all 13 post-season games (1 goal, 6 points, 28 penalty minutes).
Still plenty of great seats available for all upcoming Komet home games. Tickets are on sale at the Coliseum Ticket Office and online atwww.ticketmaster.com. Single game ticket prices for 2009-10 remain the same as last season, ranging from $8.00 to $20.00 for seniors and adults and starting at $6.00 for children. After Friday night's home game against Quad City the Komets are idle Saturday but travel to Port Huron to face the Icehawks Sunday at 5pm. Varone placed on waivers.....The Komets also announced Thursday that forward Rick Varone has been placed on waivers. The center appeared in 23 games this season scoring a goal and six points. Varone skated his rookie season last year with the Komets scoring 23 goals and 55 points in 75 games and was named to the 2008-09 IHL All-Rookie Team. Varone was a member of the 2009 Turner Cup Champion Komets appearing in all 11 playoff games scoring two goals and eight points.
