Giberson to discuss faith, learning relationship

HUNTINGTON, IN—Huntington University’s 2009-2010 Forester Lecture Series will begin Sept. 10 with Dr. Karl W. Giberson, professor of physics at Eastern Nazarene College.

Giberson will present “Making Friends with Darwin: A Christian’s Painful Journey” at 7 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.  As part of The Examined Christian Life Series, his lecture will focus on what it means to be an educated Christian and the role of higher learning in the journey of faith.

Giberson is executive vice president of the BioLogos Foundation, director of the Forum on Faith and Science at Gordon College, and editor-at-large of Science and Religion Today. His books, including “Worlds Apart: The Unholy War between Religion and Science” (Beacon Hill, 1993) and “Saving Darwin: How to be a Christian and Believe in Evolution” (HarperOne, 2009), have garnered national attention and have established him as a leading commentator on the relationship between religious belief and scientific inquiry.  

HU Foundation to kick off Breakfast Series Sept. 9

HUNTINGTON, IN - The Huntington Unviversity Foundation will kick off its 2009-2010 Breakfast Series on Sept. 9. 

Dr. G. Blair Dowden, president, will share the goals for the academic year. Jeff Berggren, vice president for enrollment management and marketing, will provide the enrollment figures for the fall semester, and Dr. Norris Friesen, vice president and dean, will introduce new faculty members.

The breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. in Habecker Dining Commons. The cost is $6 per person. Breakfasts are open to the public, and first-time guests are not charged. The program will conclude by 9 a.m.

Huntington ranked among top 10 Midwest colleges

HUNTINGTON, IN—The 2010 U.S. World Report annual collegiate rankings has listed Huntington University as 6th among the Best Baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest region, rising one spot from its 7th place ranking in the 2009 edition.

Huntington also appears as No. 5 in the Best Values catagory for baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest. This ranking is based on the percentage of students receiving need-based grants, the average cost of tuition after receiving those grants and the average discount from the total cost.

As one of the nation’s top-ranked Christian colleges, Huntington offers more than 70 academic programs, including new bachelor’s degrees in nursing, Spanish, digital media arts, economics and finance, political studies, social work, sports ministry, and worship leadership.  Huntington also offers master’s degrees in education, counseling and ministry.

2nd Annual Car Show September 5th

Saturday September 5th Labor Day weekend the second annual Northeast Indiana Emergency Vehicle Show & Expo will take place.  All new this year will be a open car show for anyone who would like to show off their ride, whether it is a show vehicle, cruiser, low rider, muscle car or motorcycle.  If you want to show it bring it to this event.

The show begins at 9 am and last till 5 pm and it all happens at Hier's Park, on South Briant Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Forbes.com names Huntington one of "America's Best"

HUNTINGTON, IN—For the second time, Forbes.com has named Huntington University one of One of America's best Colleges.

At No. 97 on the overall list, Huntington was fifth among Indiana public and private colleges and universities and the second highest-ranked member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. In addition, Huntington ranked No. 86 on Forbes.com’s list of America's Best Private Colleges.

Police Robot Demonstration Open to Public

We would like to formally invite all of you to come August 11th, Tuesday at Noon to Heir’s Park in Huntington, Indiana in the Community Building as Huntington County 4-H Robotics demonstrates the police robot designed for Huntington City Police Department officers to use at the shooting practice.

The Huntington County 4-H FIRST Robotics Team was the first of its kind in Indiana, started in 1999. Since then, multiple 4-H teams have popped up across the country, binding the four H’s (Head, Heart, Hands, and Health) with the science of technology of FIRST robotics. There is no better illustration of this partnership than Huntington Robotics’ most recent project.

An Evening with Mercy Me and Attaboy

A constant drizzle could not dampen the spirits of what can best be described as a very large and enthusiastic audience Friday evening at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne to see Christian recording artists Mercy Me and Attaboy.  The concert was presented by Trinity Communications, Rush Concerts and Huntington University.

Attaboy, consisting of Huntington University alumni Amos Caley, Jeff Edgel and Huntington native Chris Brumbaugh, opened the show with a very strong and enthusiastic set that lasted nearly 30 minutes.  The set concluded with their newly released  single, "Wait on You" off of their debut album "Shout".

Montana to speak at August leadership luncheon

HUNTINGTON, IN—On Aug. 27, the Hunitngton University Center for Leardership will host a leadership luncheon open to business and community leaders.

The luncheon will feature Melissa Montana, a 25-year veteran of the radio industry. She has served as the general manager of STAR 88.3 for 10 years and is the CEO/president of STAR Educational Media Network. In addition, she has become a well-known radio personality in the Northeast Indiana area as well as nationally.

Montana’s presentation is titled “Moving from Good to Great: The Value of Excellence,” focusing on how, as Christians, “‘good’ shouldn’t be enough.”
