Huntington, Ind.— Larry Jackson, chief actuary at Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company in Fort Wayne, Ind. will give a presentation titled, “Count On It,” on Friday, March 5, at Huntington University. The seminar will address the mathematical nature of the actuarial career and what Jackson describes as "the unexpected twists and turns which one can count on in a career and in life."
Jackson's presentation is part of the Gerald D. Smith Lecture Series in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The program will begin at 4 p.m. in Hiner Hall, located on the second floor of the Science Hall. (Map) The lecture is free and open to the public.

Huntington, Ind.—Huntington University’s EXCEL Adult Degree Programs will hold an informational meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 23, in the Nursing Department housed in the lower level of the university’s Science Hall.
This free-of-charge event is open to registered nurses interested in completing their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Dr. Margaret Winter, director of the nursing program, and Heather Barkley, marketing & web specialist for EXCEL, will be on hand to answer questions. All R.N.s who attend will receive a free gift.

In conjunction with the Roanoke Public Library’s 100th anniversary, the Friends of the Library are hosting a free, special presentation by the nationally known speaker and inventor of eBooks and founder of Project Gutenberg, Michael S. Hart, Saturday, Feb. 27, 3 p.m., at the Seminary U.M. Church, 285 Seminary Street, Roanoke. Hart will be speaking on "Books and eBooks: Past, Present and Future Libraries". After the presentation there will be birthday reception with cake and light refreshments for everyone. Hart will be available at that time for questions.

HUNTINGTON — Victory Noll Center begins its second lunchtime book study February 24 with an examination of the book "Life of the Beloved" by Henri Nouwen.
Coinciding with the season of Lent, the book study will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on six Wednesdays from February 24 to March 31. Anyone interested should bring a bag lunch and a copy of the book. Victory Noll Center will provide beverages. There is no cost and no registration for the book study, but a free will offering will be taken.

Huntington, Ind.— The Huntington University Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Management will host a SPARK™ workshop on March 5 for physical education teachers. The workshop will be presented in collaboration with the Indiana School Health Network.
SPARK™ is an acronym for "Sports, Play & Active Recreation for Kids." The workshop will provide each attendee with a working knowledge of SPARK’s unique content and instructional strategies. Participants will learn about the program's standards-based lessons and varied teaching styles. The SPARK curriculum has been shown to have positive effects on students' academic achievement, fitness level, sports skill development, and enjoyment of physical education classes.

This free-of-charge event is open to anyone interested in the possibility of pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree through the EXCEL program. Carrie Hoffman, admissions consultant, will be on hand to answer questions.
EXCEL offers evening and online classes tailored to the schedule of working adults. Onsite classes are held one night per week, one subject at a time. Classes last five to eight weeks and lead to an associate degree in organizational management or Christian ministry or bachelor’s degrees in accounting, business administration, human resource management, not-for-profit leadership or nursing.
