Gene Haas

Gene Haas, 84 of Warren, formerly of Poplar Street in Huntington passed away at 9:36 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at his home. He was a 1944 graduate of Ironton High School in Ironton, Ohio. He was a 1948 graduate of the University of Kentucky in Lexington with his Bachelor’s degree in education. He was a teacher and a coach at Ironton High School until he was drafted in the Army, serving for two years. He was manager of the Ashland Oil Terminal in Huntington until his retirement in 1991 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Warren Church of Christ. He moved to Huntington in 1956 and later moved to Warren in 2003. 

He was born on August 7, 1925 in Ironton, Ohio, a son of John and Nellie (Moore) Haas. 

He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Dement on June 22, 1952 in Ironton, Ohio. His wife survives. 

Additional survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Donald (Judy) Kiphart of London, England; Mrs. Gilbert (Susan) Smith of Davenport, Iowa; Mrs. Thomas (Phyllis) Carr of Carmel, Indiana; a sister: Mrs. Margaret Dean of Mansfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Edward, James, Carl and Charles Haas and three sisters: Lucille Hriesik; Rosalie Gibson and Elsie McCafferty. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN. 

Services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel with Gerald O. Moreland and Chaplain Joe Haney officiating. 

Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
