Preston Smith, 66 of Huntington, passed away Friday October 9, 2009 at 3:33 pm at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He had worked at Townsend Tree Service for 5 years and Huntington City Street Department for 10 years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with grandchildren and his poker buddies.
Preston was born December 22, 1942 in Pikeville, Kentucky the son of Trimble and Elva Mae (Parsons) Smith. On March 23, 1973 he married his beloved wife of 36 years Gloria J. Sparks in Huntington and she survives in Huntington. Also surviving are 2 daughters Jenny (George) Westfall of Huntington and Susan Smith of Huntington, 3 sons Billy Craft of Wisconsin, Preston “Todd” (Sarah) Smith of Andrews, Dennis (Jody) Smith of Huntington, a brother John (Shelly) Smith of Huntington, a sister Joyce (Roy) Thacker of Huntington, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Ray Smith and Jack Smith and 2 grandsons Preston Gage and Todd Hunter.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 12 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel, and 1 hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday October 13 at 11:00 at the funeral home with Pastor Brunk Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
