Max Wayne Phillips, age 69, of Huntington, died Sunday (January 31, 2010) at his home residence.
Max was born on August 9, 1940 in Franklin, the son of Thomas A. and Hazel A. (Baker) Phillips. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from November 5, 1959 to February 8, 1962. Max married Nancy A. Colbert on September 16, 1962 in Huntington.
Max worked for Kroger in Fort Wayne as a diesel mechanic for 17 years. Prior to that, he worked at H. K. Porter in Huntington for 12 years. He attended the Life Church in Huntington and also the Third Street Church of God in Fort Wayne. While attending the Church of God, Max was known to many as the “Bread Man” from his work in the food ministry. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge #823 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years – Nancy A. Phillips of Huntington; one son – David A. Myers of Huntington; one daughter – Aaraka S. (Tommy) Case of Lagro; one brother – David R. Phillips of Bear Lake; two sisters – Vickie (William) Crider of Roanoke and Peggy (Daniel) Johnson of Huntington; and five grandchildren. His parents, brothers – Perry Phillips, Larry Phillips and Earl Phillips; and a sister – Hazel Phillips, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday (January 3, 2010) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday (January 3, 2010) also at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Truman Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Marion V.A. Cemetery with military rites.
