Wilda Gay Cox

Wilda Gay Cox, age 85, of Huntington, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday (January 31, 2010) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Wilda was born on August 29, 1924, in Berwind, West Virginia, the daughter of George Pearly and Bessie Mae (West) Rane.  She graduated from Big Creek High School, War, West Virginia in 1942.  Wilda married Bill A. Cox on February 3, 1947 in Pikeville, Kentucky.  He preceded her in death on October 11, 1987.   The family became  residents of Huntington in June of 1961.

Wilda retired from Lime City Trucking Company in 1982 after 20 years of service as the billing clerk.  She also volunteered for 20 years at the Parkview Huntington Hospital and contributed over 12,000 hours of service. Wilda was a member of the St. Peter’s First Community Church and the Parkview Huntington Hospital Guild.

Survivors include two daughters – Sharon (Pete) McCoart of Huntington and Susan (Lyle) Smith of Huntington; one son – Leon Cox of Huntington; one sister – Willetta Rane-Farmer of Bluefield, West Virginia; three grandchildren – Sonya (Rusty) Foraker of Huntington, Shane (Breann) McCoart of Huntington and Sherie (Brian) Hughes of Detroit, Michigan and one great–grandchild –Marissa Foraker of Huntington.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister – Maude Rane-Peery.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday (February 3, 2010) at Bailey-Love Mortuary.  The Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (February 4, 2010) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Rev. Ray Scribner officiating.  Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
