David A. Finton, 66, of Huntington passed away at 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Progressive Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He coached Little League and Pony League teams with Huntington County Baseball for 22 years. He worked with INDOT of Fort Wayne in the District Construction Department for 43 years, retiring as a project supervisor on August 8, 2008. He worked on many successful construction projects throughout NE Indiana, the rehabilitation of the J. Edward Roush Dam in 2004, and most recently the resurfacing of State Road 124 from IN5 to IN9. He was a member of the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene since 2001 and previously a long time member of First Baptist Church. Upon retirement he enjoyed walking six days a week at the YMCA. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Indiana University basketball.
He was born on June 29, 1943 in Kosciusko County, a son of Gusta and Vera (Logan) Finton.
He was united in marriage to Janet S. Markley on December 10, 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Huntington. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include four daughters: Patty (Randy) Allen of Huntington; Robyn Osborne of Huntington; Shelly (Ken) Griffin of Monroe, Michigan; Tabitha (Rick) Hall of Huntington; two sons: Chris Finton of Huntington; Brian Finton of Huntington; four brothers: Bill (Betty) Finton of Huntington; Jim (Ruth) Finton of Fort Wayne; Harold (Sandy) Finton of Huntington; Richard Finton of Huntington; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Marjorie Shenefield, Doris Blessing and a great grandson: Caden Lee Finton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington,Indiana.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road with Pastor Kevin Dunlop officiating.
Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
