George W. Stallings, 89, Huntington, IN., died Monday, March 15, 2010 at 7:42 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren, Indiana
George Stallings was born February 28, 1921 in Plymouth, Indiana to Clarence and Bertha Williams Stallings. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Stallings married Elizabeth (Betty) Wilkinson on January 27, 1944. She survives and resides in Huntington, IN.
Mr. Stallings was a graduate of Andrews High School, Class of 1940. He graduated from Huntington College where he received a B.A. Degree. He then graduated from Ball State University where he earned a M.A. Degree. From 1963 to 1983 he was a teacher and coach in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He served during WW II and the Korean Wars as a Marine Aviator. He received a Distinguished Flying Cross for a major strike over Tokyo. He was a member of St Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, Indiana, the VFW Post # and the Indiana Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Stallings, Huntington, IN. one son: Mike Stallings, Fort Wayne, Indiana and two daughters Theresa Diener, Monticello, Indiana and Mary and her Husband Shawn Chambers Mt. Joiliet, Indiana. Two brothers: Wilbur Stallings, Andrews, Indiana and Les and his wife Bobbie Stallings, Baton Rouge, LA. Six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Sarah Farrell and Mary Ruth Smith and one brother, Robert Stallings.
Calling hours will be from 2 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday March 18, 2010 at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St.,Huntington, IN. Recitation of the rosary will be at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, Indiana, with Fr. John Pfister, presider.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, Indiana.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are to: Masses at St. Mary Catholic Church or National Parkinson Association.
