Jackie Bowers, 78 of Markle passed away at 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at his residence. He attended Huntington Township High School. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954 at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He worked as a foundry worker with Maco Corporation (General Aluminum) from 1956 – 2007. He enjoyed bowling and participated in as many as three leagues. He also enjoyed fishing and teaching his children and grandchildren to fish.
He was born on March 6, 1932 in Huntington, a son of Hayden and Clara (Parrett) Bowers, Sr.
He was united in marriage to Alice R. Raber on May 21, 1952 in Louisville,Kentucky. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include four sons: Tim Bowers of Markle; David (Barb) Bowers of Roanoke; Jackie Bowers, Jr. of Huntington; Scott (Wendy) Bowers of Huntington; two daughters: Mrs. May (Steve) Rodgers of Huntington; Mrs. Melissa (Kevin) Pitman of Huntington; five brothers: Richard Bowers; Norm Bowers; Larry Bowers; Gary Bowers; Donnie Bowers all of Huntington; three sisters: Evelyn Raber; Velene Gibler and Roxanne Shumate; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Hayden Bowers, Jr. and a sister: Juanita Holley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street,Huntington, Indiana.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Huntington County.
