Since everyone seems to think that it is important to know that the City of Huntington is the last in the area to implement a storm-water user fee...let's use this to our advantage. Big industries in other cities are paying up to $20,000.00 per year in storm-water fees. Instead of burdening the few industries left in Huntington with similar costs, we could entice businesses and industries to re-locate HERE (where there is not a fee) and save them thousands and thousands of dollars. What a marketing tool this could be!

Andrews receipts ready

I received the following correspondence from the Town of Andrews regarding the public document request submitted for the receipts to the corresponding credit card statements I requested earlier in the year.  Pay close attention to the wording in item two.  I have someone on the way to Andrews to pay and pick up the receipts and if all goes as planned, these receipts should be posted sometime this weekend for your viewing pleasure.

On May 21, 2009,  I submitted a three public document requests for website visited by Mayor Steve, Mayor's wife Pam and Mayor's Operations Manager Ruth.  on Thursday, May 28, I did receive a response from the City of Huntington Clerk Treasurer Christi Scher.  You can view the letter below.  I would like to add that Mrs. Scher, in my last two requests for documents, has responded in a very timely and professional manner.

I was quoted in the Herald Press about storm water fees...the entire statement (which was not printed) was about how burdensome it would be for residents to pay new (top of the grid) trash fees, storm water fees, etc...as opposed to such fees being implemented 20 years ago at very small rate (which would have built up over time). For the record, I am NOT in favor of either fee at this time of economic hardship.

With a July 31, 2009 deadline looming for the Huntington County Council to make a decision on the Local Option Income Tax (LOIT), residents of Huntington County should start paying attention.  The County Council must act before July 31 for the LOIT to take effect at the beginning of the next fiscal year, leaving only two scheduled meetings remaining before the deadline hits. And while we could take a look a how each council person could vote, I think it is more important to examine why four members of the council should not be voting on it at all.

I just received the ranking of the top 150 websites visited by city/county officials and employees and to my surprise, I found myself ranked 79th with 14,892 hits in a 30 day period ending May 15.  Not bad guys, but we can do better?  Good thing they don't visit my site.

What are you looking at?

At the May 11, 2009 Huntington County Commissioners meeting, the minutes indicate that Mayor Steve and the person doing his job, Operations Manager, Ruth Marsh, came before the commissioners to discuss email useage and sites they would like to see blocked.  I thought, oh really!  Well, if you've seen some of the news outlets recently, the County-City IT Department has put together a list of the top ten websites visited by county/city computers.

Etna Avenue Meeting

Wednesday, three Huntington Common Councilmen held a meeting at Lime City with local business leaders that would be effected by the Etna Avenue project.  Councilman Jason Fields, who along with Keith Eller and Steve McIntyre, organized the meeting.  "These local businesses will be directly effected by this project and they have concerns, as I do, about the not only the costs, but the effect it will have on their businesses and whether the work will even fix the problem." commented Fields.  "It is important to get all the input I can before making a decision on whether or not I will support this project." added Fields.  The Etna Avenue project will come before the common council June 9 for a final vote on the project.
