Carmel, IN - August 31, 2009 - Fifth District Republican Congressional candidate Brose McVey today called on incumbent Representative Dan Burton to suspend further use of tax dollars to finance political junk mail. McVey called on Burton to "lead by example, not follow."
"It's time for the 5th District to be represented by a leader, not by a follower. Rep. Burton can send a signal to his colleagues and his voters by saying 'no' to this political privilege," McVey said. In addition, McVey asked Burton to disclose the full cost of design, production and the market value of postage associated with his use of the franking privilege since elected in 1982, and since his reelection last fall. Burton's latest mailing, touting his personal opinion about the House Democrat health care plan, recently arrived in mailboxes throughout the eleven-county district.

Representative Dan Burton came to Huntington well prepared for tonight's health care town hall meeting at Flint Springs Elementary School. Unlike some of the other meetingsseen on YouTube where the crowd seems more knowledgeable than the congressman, Rep. Burton seemed well informed. He started with a presentation that included a slide show outlining some of the problems with government health care, such as the ever increasing the cost (about $1 trillion), rationing of care, creating an inefficient and complicated bureaucracy, potentiality causing 2 out of 3 Americans to lose their current coverage, and increases in taxes on small business. He then put forward HR 3400, a bill he supports and contends will go a long way in decreasing the cost of health care and making it more available for all people, while avoiding government control. Some appeared to be wondering if he was ever going to allow for questions.

A good magician can make objects appear out of thin air, a slight of hand if you will. And while that may be enjoyable if you are looking for entertainment, you don't necessarily want that out of your local newspaper. I am not here to pick on the Herald-Press, lord knows they have enough issues without me helping out. Anyway, the Herald-Press sent a reporter to the 5th District Congressional Town Hall meeting sponsored by this website, HuntingtonPolitics.com along with Hoosieraccess.com, who broadcast the event live on the internet and Hossierpundit.com. When the article covering the event appeared in the Herald-Press (this is where we usually put a link but since they want to charge you to visit it now, we won't) Thursday, there was one glaring omission from the piece. That's right, they neglected to credit the people who made the event happen.

Huntington businessman and life long resident Ron Fusselman, 44, officially announced his candidacy for the Indiana State Senate District 17 seat being vacated by Gary "Doc" Dillion to HuntingtonPolitics.com Wednesday. Fusselman, owner of the popular Coffee D'Vine coffee shop joins announced candidates Whitley County Councilman Jim Banks and President of the Huntington County Commissioners Tom Wall.
"I am not a politician, I am a small business owner and I want to champion the cause of the average Hoosier and small business. I live with the consequences of our current fiscal and tax policies and they are suffocating the small business person and the struggling middle-class family. We need to lower taxes on businesses and Hoosier families and then, and only then, will the economy start to produce the jobs we need to keep our neighbors employed." said Fusselman. "The system is broke and what our current politicians are doing is not working. If you want an experienced politician, then I am not your man, but remember, how well has experience worked so far?" added Ron.

After much anticipation, 5th District Congressional Candidates Dr. John McGoff and Brose McVey took the podium at the Dan Quayle Vice Presidential Learning Center Tuesday evening to a crowd of nearly 60 people. The event, sponsored by HuntingtonPolitics.com, Hoosieraccess.com and Hoosierpundit.com over came some, well, we'll just say obstacles in the form of Pam Updike, and put on a great show for the mix of elected officials, candidates for various offices and Huntington residents. All candidates did receive an invitation to talk to Huntington County voters, with Luke Messer and Congressman Dan Burton declining to attend. State Representative Mike Murphy originally accepted the invitation, but later withdrew due to a conflict in his schedule..
