In a letter being sent out to friends and supporters by Indiana State Senator Gary "Doc" Dillon regarding an upcoming hog roast at his residence, the Senator is set to endorse Whitley County Councilman Jim Banks to replace him in the Indiana Senate. Banks, along with Huntington resident and owner of Coffee d'Vine and Huntington County Commission President Tom Wall are vying to fill Dillon's seat. This endorsement comes on the heels of endorsements for Banks from Congressman Mark Souder and Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold.
Here is an excerpt from the letter:
"As a way of saying thank you and also endorsing Jim Banks whom I am supporting for the seat which I am vacating, we are planning a hog roast on October 24th."

I'm not sure if this is such a good thing for Banks.
Who is paying for the letters that are being sent? I hope he's not using tax dollars to send out political ads. It would be one more reason for Dillion to move on.
By accepting this endorsement Banks has just lost my vote.

K, I am very pleased to have Senator Dillon's support. I hope to emulate his humility in the State Senate if I am fortunate enough to be elected. The letter has a disclaimer that says it is paid for by his campaign committee. Thank you.

Before placing a lot of merit to the endorsments from the big-name politicians, check to see how much money Banks has raised for those big names. He has proven he can raise money and in essence buy their endorsements. That doesn't mean he will be a good Senator. In fact, it may just show that he comes from the same political mold that needs to be broken forever. not that Tom Wall is a better choice (he's not). How about giving an average joe (Fusselman) a shot at being a TRUE representative of the people. Likewise with Steve Ochs in ANY elected position.

Steve, "not in my backyard" Ochs?

I've met all of the candidates that so far have filed for State Senate Seat, District 17, and Jim Banks is by far the best candidate.
He's very intelligent and articulate. He's not a "knee jerk" politician. He actually thinks before he speaks!
I am extremely confident in his character and abilities. I'm certain he would represent the entire district well.
If you talk with all three, I'm sure you're reach the same conclusion very quickly!

Thanks Ryder. I will work hard to earn your vote. More important than these endorsements is where each of us stands on the important issues facing our district. I look forward to discussing issues and my proven conservative record at the forum at Huntington University on Oct 20th. Thanks again!

Gimmieabreak
I just happened upon your post. Do us a favor and expound upon what a great idea ethanol was for this town and please tell everyone how solid a corporate entity Nufuels was. Oops, thats right, ethanol in Indiana has gone bust and Nufuels evaporated.
It was not really in my backyard but I firmly believe it should not have been in anybody's backyard. It was a transitional fuel being supported by subsidy and tariff. The ethanol bubble burst as predicted. Thank goodness we were not saddled with a failing industry in our town like many other communities that invited the get rich quick ethanol scheme in.
They are suffering the consequences, we are not! By the way, I found the grant request documents at the state level that identified only 18 jobs attached to this industry. Only 3 of the 18 were for non degreed individuals. I personally think Huntington deserves better.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

You won't need to worry, Banks. Like always, money will win this race. By the way a big thanks for running out on the job (stepping stone) you were already elected to do.
