In a letter being sent out to friends and supporters by Indiana State Senator Gary "Doc" Dillon regarding an upcoming hog roast at his residence, the Senator is set to endorse Whitley County Councilman Jim Banks to replace him in the Indiana Senate. Banks, along with Huntington resident and owner of Coffee d'Vine and Huntington County Commission President Tom Wall are vying to fill Dillon's seat. This endorsement comes on the heels of endorsements for Banks from Congressman Mark Souder and Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold.
Here is an excerpt from the letter:

Over the next several months, HuntingtonPolitics.com will be interviewing the Huntington County Sheriff candidates...errr...candidate. Tom Carney has agreed to participate in the interview process and unfortunately for the voters of Huntington County, Terry Stoffel would rather keep his views a secret. Terry Stoffel informed me Friday that his "team' has decided not to participate with HuntingtonPolitics.com and its 9,000 readers a month. As with the Congressional and State Senate candidates, I will send Tom one question every other week and post his response. As the election gets closer, we will move the questions to once a week. And before I get Stoffel fan sending me their take on how unfair I am, let me remind you, he chose not to participate.

"They say we're young and we don't know. We won't find out until we know. Well I don't know if all that's true, Cause you got me and baby I got you. Babe, I got you babe."
As most of your know, and if you don't you should, that in the movie "Ground Hog Day", Bill Murray's character plays a weather man covering the Punxsutawney Phil ceremonies on Ground Hog Day. If you remember correctly, and I do, Murray's character keeps reliving the same day over and over, just with different outcomes. He wakes up each morning to the radio blaring to Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe". So, to get to the point, today, the Board of works again tabled the Mel Hunnicutt hearing regarding his "inappropriate use of city computers and internet (porn)".
"They say our love won't pay the rent, before it's earned our money's all spent. I guess that's so, we don't have a pot. But at least I'm sure of all the things we got. Babe, I got you babe."

With an obvious expression of regret on his face, Mayor Steve Updike took the advice of City Attorney Bob Garrett. The Audience, (all ten of us), in the City Building this morning thought for sure that someone would be, "going home" or "going back to work". But it seems the Mel Hunnicutt Show, (or should it be called The Mel Hunnicaught Show), will be extended because of great ratings, with the Board of Works meeting again on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:00 a.m. That open executive session hearing will feature a vote on Mel's future. The B. of W. tribe starring two voters - the Mayor of Huntington and the lovely Shirley Powell will hopefully put this behind them. Mr. Barry Cochran has also taken the legal advice of Mr. Garrett and recused himself from the vote.
