3rd Congressional race heating up early

While most Huntington County voters are focusing on the 5th District Congressional race, our readers in Allen and Whitley Counties are focusing on the 3rd Congressional District as former aide to Senator Dan Coats, Phil Troyer,  is mounting a serious challenge to Congressman Mark Souder.  As many of you know, Congressman Souder was elected in 1994 masquerading as a "Conservative" and promising to abide by term limits.  Well, 16 years later Congressman Souder not only broke his term-limits pledge but has been one of the largest abusers of pork barrel projects in Congress, even voting for the TARP bailout.    Here is Troyor's radio spot,the first round fired by the Troyer campaign in the 3rd District Congressional race.

A meeting of the Andrews Town Council was held on Monday December 28, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. in the Andrews Municipal Building in accordance with applicable law and pursuant to appropriate notice. 

Mike Murphy to file firearm privacy legislation

Mike Murphy, candidate for the 5^th Congressional District, will file legislation in the Indiana General Assembly to protect the privacy of those with firearm carry permits in the state. The proposed legislation would make the information on a firearm carry permit application, as well as the name and address of the person holding the permit, protected information. The information would not be public record and would be available only to law enforcement officials for legitimate law enforcement purposes.

“Unsure” Isn’t Always an Option

In November the three Republican state Senate candidates in District 17completed questionnaires from the Allen County Right to Life seeking information about their individual positions on a number of critical pro-life issues.  The questions asked were straightforward and two of the candidates did a solid job of providing clear answers.  Reviewing the final essay question, however, one would probably have to conclude that Jim Banks, an experienced pro-family and pro-life advocate with national experience, provided the most thorough and persuasive explanation of his pro-life philosophy.*

Candidate Tom Wall, currently a Huntington County Commissioner, checked “unsure” in responding to two of the questions on his questionnaire.  Each of the questions he marked this way were very simple questions dealing with two common pro-life issues faced by legislators around the country.  Anyone familiar with the cursory elements of the pro-life position and philosophy would have been able to make a final judgment about his or her support of the position stated in the question.

An Incestuous Government in Fran(Van)drews?

 With the recent appointments of Bob Gray to the Andrews Town Council and Steve Juillerat (of fire truck fame) as the Dallas Township Trustee, it's now clear, as if it wasn't before, their is something almost incestuous about the local government in Andrews.  Now I know nepotism is rampant through most of Huntington County and City government, hell, it's almost an art form.  Matter of fact, Huntington is infamous for elected officials and appointees using their official position as a personal jobs bank for family members.  You only have to look at the Mayor's family and the former police chief and now candidate for sheriff's family to see it.  Anyway, this is about Andrews so let's take a look.

State Rep. Dan Leonard: Wasting Hoosiers' Tax Dollars

 By now, most of you have received State Representative Dan Leonard's 2010 campaign mailer...errr...Constituent Survey in the mail.  I received three of them yesterday.  The outside of the campaign piece reads, "State Representative Dan Leonard is Keeping Government out of Hoosiers Pocketbooks", "Protecting Taxpayers" and "Creating Jobs".  Really?  How much did it cost the taxpayers for Dan to send out this obvious campaign piece disguised as a survey?  $5,000?  $10,000?

Health Care Passes

This week our United States Congress is passing government run health care, completely disregarding our Constitution and the majority of the citizens of this country. This happened with the “bailouts” and also with the “stimulus giveaway”. They are ignoring thousands of letters, rallies, and phone calls, and instead just shoving down our throats whatever they desire. The irony is that all this is being done with OUR money, and that they are all planning on getting re-elected with OUR money. There is a dirty little secret called the iron triangle that many do not know about. It is a slew of favors, bribes, and kickbacks that are being paid for with OUR money.
