First, Stoffel wasn't completely truthful on his campaign finance reports and had to offer and amendment reflecting Mayor Updike's support. Now, there is the statement below indicating Sheriff Ken Fries of Allen County is now supporting/endorsing him. Only one problem...NOT TRUE. (Take a look for yourself before he pulls it down)
Here is a statement from Sheriff Ken Fries of Allen County to HuntingtonPolitics.com regarding the Stoffel non-support/endorsement and Stoffel's untrue statement:
"I met Terry Stoffel yesterday (Thursday, January 28, 2010), but am not endorsing anyone in Huntington County for the sheriff's office. I am not supporting any candidate in Huntington so if that is on a Facebook some place, that is inaccurate." - Ken Fries
Terry Stoffel for Sheriff Had lunch yesterday with Sheriff Ken Fries of Allen County. Got alot of insight on the Sheriff race and it's up's and down's. Offered his support and we are planning to meet again to go over some strategy points. Great guy!
I read some definitions in the comment section, so I decided to post the two definitions given and to add a couple of my own:
Political endorsement - is the action of publicly declaring one's personal or group's support of a candidate for elected office.
A conflict of interest (COI) occurs when an individual or organization is involved in multiple interests, one of which could possibly corrupt the motivation for an act in the other.
A conflict of interest can only exist if a person or testimony is entrusted with some impartiality; a modicum of trust is necessary to create it. The presence of a conflict of interest is independent from the execution of impropriety. Therefore, a conflict of interest can be discovered and voluntarily defused before any corruption occurs.
Unethical - Not in accordance with the moral standards customarily followed in a business or professional relationship.
Untruthful - not in accordance with the truth; untrue

Where in that statement from Stoffel does it say that Ken Fries is endorsing Terry Stoffel? I do not read that anywhere. What I do read is that it says that he offered his support which I take that as if Terry has questions about things that he would answer those questions for him or would talk to him about those questions or concerns. Come on this is getting ridiculous!

I would have to agree. Ken Fries is not going to endorce anyone in a republican primary. Offering support is different than an endorcement. I am sure Ken Fries would offer support to Tom if Tom asked. I think Gary does a good job, but would have to say that this crosses the line.

Semantics.....that's all that's at issue here.
No one knows whether or not Terry meant to convey an endorsement....or simply moral support....
Except for Mr. Stoffel.
A show of hands of all who think he is politically cunning or intelligent enough to infer through the use of the word 'support' that someone is endorsing him?
Either way you choose to answer that, it can raise some doubts, huh?
Maybe someone needs to ask Mr. Stoffel what he intended to say?
I stand my statement in another post: "You can tell a lot about how a person thinks by what they write."

Well, Terry, you found out the hard way that Sheriff Fries is NOT a great guy. If you'd followed him in the Fort Wayne media at all you would have known that. He is a Class A you-know-what.

I'm confused by Mr. Stoffel's strategy. In the Herald-Mess he bad mouths the Farthing administration when I don't think Kent is running. And now he is talking with the Sheriff of Allen County about strategy for HIS race in Huntington County.
I can see how he would need to talk to another Sheriff about how to do the job because he doesn't have the experience but I would thought he might have his own ideas on HIS campaign.

Gary, you are taking a shot in the dark here. I respect your coverage on most things but it appears you're running a smear campaign for Carney.

Aces and Eights,
Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. Additionally, check verb agreement next time you post something you want taken seriously.

Bummer that you have stooped to such low levels Gary...you must bear much shame for your behavior. It is also a bummer for the Huntington people whom have become part of this insanity. Their credibility is certainly on the line.

Gary, once again you have gone wacko and read what you want to see into a statement which says nothing about an endorsement. Mr. Carney should distance himself from you before you totally destroy his campaign. It is my guess that anyone you support will never see an elected office........

I don't think that Gary has anything to feel bad about or ashamed of. All he has done is to check facts and as for some accountability. Apparently facts and truths are not acceptable for some.
Misleading statements are the norm from the Stoffel camp and retribution is a trademark, as can be seen by the comments coming from his supporters. This is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Gary be forewarned, if Stoffel should win, you're life will not be easy. You'll probably have a cross burnt in your yard on election nite either way.
