Well, they say a good compromise is when nobody is happy.
The Democrats aren't happy that big businesses who don't need $350 million in tax breaks got them while we're in a recession and the state is over-budget.
The Republicans are royally pissed that everyday people who honestly can't find work are still able to stay in their homes and feed their families.
I'll tell you that some Republican Teabagger is going to jump in here and be all like "Well, they're CHOOSING not to work if they've been out of a job this long! *snort*" and if we had a system where they could reasonably expect to afford to go to school, I would agree that they haven't used up all their options, but the Republicans cut pretty much all state-level grants and tuition is up pretty much across the board, so these people are not leeches, they're caught in a limbo and have no place to go.
I'm kind of half joking with people when they ask me what I think is the best job right now, I tell them "firing Americans, and when there's no more of them left, you can probably relocate to China and make shock collars for all the slave laborers they probably put them on"
Zay gave the usual Teabagger line of "Small Business is God", but seems unable to recognize the fact that with an entire chunk of our economy missing (manufacturing), there's not going to be anyone left with the "disposable income" to go spend at Zay Leasing and Rental, and then his business will shrivel up and die. You see, while there is a pyramid, small business (especially service-oriented as his is) is not the base, nor is it the cornerstone. Small business is probably near the middle column.
Businessmen either refuse to see that the US economy is incapable of growth and is limited to a bubble-by-bubble feast-to-famine in its current state, or are an active part of the public looting going on everywhere disguised as TARP, Stimulus, Jobs bills, etc.
Fiat currency and Globalization. The US might be dead already and not even know it. The only thing we seem to export are patents.
One more thing. This article says we are $1.6 billion in debt to the Federal government. Doesn't the state constitution ban any kind of external debt? Doesn't this mean that we have to fund our obligations? Why are we giving out more public looting funds (the $350 million) when there are so many unfunded state obligations which we are unconstitutionally borrowing in order to fund?

Ryan
Since you have all the answers, why don't you run for office and show them how it needs to be done!

"Sick of Ryan's..." As an American, I find your comment offensive. Reason? A person does not have to run for office in order to be able to express himself. For once, we have someone (Ryan) who is willing to research how the US government operates and the consequences of the different approaches to that operation. What he or she has stimulated is DIALOGUE and PARTICIPATION. That's what politics is all about. It is comments like YOURS that intimidate and dampen any progress that could be made by putting issues on the table.
Try it again and come up with something worthwhile.

Knows Better-Going Communist wouldn't be "progress" as that has been tried and failed.

Giving Wal-Mart-like businesses $350 million in tax credits to make $7.25 an hour part time jobs that you can't live on is not the kind of behavior that Indiana should be encouraging.
In fact if you're a Teabagger, you're supposed to be against Corporate Welfare to begin with anyway right? There's something we can agree on!
This $350 million in Public Looting is not going anywhere except straight into the pockets of Wal-Mart executives in Bentonville, Arkansas and to the international bankster cartels so that they may continue to fire Americans and order more crap from the People's Republic of China.
$350 million is just a small part of what has been given to these types already, I know, but it would stimulate the American economy more if you paid people to dig ditches and fill them back in than where it's going now.
The ethanol subsidies? Oh boy! I think it would actually be more cost-effective to throw the cash itself into a turbine and burn it!

Actually, Ryan is not stimulating conversation. He is bad mouthing anyone who has a different opinion than his.
If anyone is trying to intimidate others, it's Ryan. His constant "Teabaggers" comments are proof of how he loathes those with differing thoughts.
Apparently, you believe no one else on here knows how government works or the possible consequences of government's action. I, as a human being, find that offensive.
SO, RYan, what would you do? Raise the minimum wage to 12.00 per hour? WHy, so prices can go up, as well. Meanwhile, the guys already making that much do not get a raise and the plight actually worsens. See, I can "reasearch", too.
The fact is, most people who work at places like Wal Mart are not the primary wage earner. If they were oto working there, they would be at K Mart, Target, Mickey D's, Burger King, Gas stations, etc.
If Wal Mart fell of the face of the earth, how many people would be out fo a job? Or, would K Mart pick up the slack and you could then blast them.
Fact is, most of your "suggestions" would do nothing more than lead us down the red road to communisim.
At least the Tea Party members are DOING something. Don't get me wrong, I am not a member, don't plan on joining. Truth is, there are a few of them I do not like, on a personal level, and don't want associated with anything they touch. Even if they were not there, I would nto join, but they are trying to do something.
We could all be like Updike and yourself and sit around and name call.
You're distaste for Republicans is obvious. The Dems are in control now and what have they done? SOme of the worst inflation ever came under Jimmy Carter. I believe he was a democrat.
Fact is, most national level politicans are the same. Almost ALL of them, regardles of party, cater to lobbyists.
The only differnce with Republicans is most of them recognize that an unborn baby's life is more important than that of a serial killers, the COnstitution does not dictate you don't say "God bless you" in a public place, the Pledge of Allegiance is perfectly Constitutional, not all problems faced by minorities are because of racism, etc, etc.
We also recognize that a person should be free to earn as much money as he can, that an individual should not pay more for the same services just because he or she makes more money.
By the way, there is not a sole on this earth that can honsetly say they can not afford to go to college. There is this thing called financial aid. There are loans that ANYONE can get regardless of credit or employment.
Are you suggesting someone should expect to come out of school debt free?
A lot of occupations can lead to loann forgivenss in full or partially.
You truly have no clue.
