I did a quick search of the city website and found 6 individuals that are current city employees and running for the Huntington Common Council. With HB 1022 - Bill limiting makeup of councils advances makes its way through the Indiana General Assembly and by all accounts, will become law, let's stop this blatant conflict of interest before it becomes law. If I am missing anyone, please let me know an I will check it out and get the names posted.
Kole Hacker (Running Common Council District 1) - Patrol Officer, Huntington Police Department
Bridgette Burkhart (Running for Common Council District 4) - Office Manager, Huntington Fire Department
Brian Sills (Running for Common Council District 2) - Asst. Superintendent, Huntington Water Dept.
Bradley Borntreger (Running for Common Council District 4) - Huntington Street Dept.
Steve McIntyre (Running for Common Council District 3) - Part-time police Dispatch: I spoke with Steve McIntyre and released this statement; "If I have the honor of being re-elected and HB1022 passes and becomes law, I will resign my position as a part-time police dispatcher and continue to serve the fine people of 3rd District."
Here is a link to HB 1022

You better run a search on the rest of the names. There's plenty of city employees running to protect their own. Feel bad for the parks and WPC, they will be the losers when it comes to no representation.

Don't feel to bad for WPC. Shirley Powell is Collin Bullocks(WPC super)mom. That means her husband is running for council.

Greed
I searched each candidate name with the city's employee data base. Give me names I missed and I'll get them up?

more,
Don't forget the wpc assistant superintendent is mayor Updike's son.
Gary,
every city employee is supposed to be listed at the city web site. They are also supposed to be listing all of the city's expenses there too. So much for the "Transparency" ordinance that Steve McIntyre got passed.

Gary, even if that bill passes, it won't do much for the moms, dads, cousins, uncles, aunts etc. that get on board and councils to further the family members careers. It's definitely a step in the right direction though. People need to stop allowing conflicts of interest to go unpunished.

Last time I checked any natural, law abiding US citizen
could run for office and no one has to vote for them. Why should their constitutional rights be ripped away from them? If the public doesn't think they should hold office because of where they work then they don't have to vote for them. It's called a democracy! Why don't these legislators that are looking at passing HB 1022 add lawers, doctors and insurance peddlers to their McCarthy black list. All of you, hypocrites, should be ashamed of yourselves. You preach fairness and righteousness when it only applies to your own ideology. You are so willing to shread up the constitution when it works to your political advantage. PATHETIC!

If HB 1022 passes, it goes into effect on July 1, 2011 and allows those already IN OFFICE on July 1, 2011 to continue to the end of their term. It doesn't allow new people to be elected without resigning their city/county position before they can even be a candidate (no waiting to take office to resign).
Should be interesting.

Compairing this to McCarthyism is ridiculous. I dont think anyone should violate this soon to be law. Therefore, I am not a hypocrite.
If you have a problem with the law, then you should work to hav eit stopped or repealed, not encourage people not to abide by it.
And no, not every natural, law abiding citizen can run for office. If they could we would nto be holding this conversation.
I guess the people who changed the Constitution so blacks were no longer condiers less than whites or so women could vote....were pathetic, self serving, hpocrites, as well.

G,
In addition to those you already have listed, you'll find two names here:
http://www.huntington.in.us/city/department/division.php?fDD=31-236
The street department doesnt have a roster listed, but Bradley Raymond Borntreger is employed. You can confirm this here http://www.huntingtoncountytab.com/feature/8898/arduous-task-christmas-clean-falls-street-dept
as one other comment pointed out, the Powell/Bullock connections are true
