(INDIANAPOLIS) Today, the Indianapolis Star reported that the Indiana Secretary of State’s office will investigate claims against 5th District Congressional candidate David McIntosh on grounds of perjury and voter fraud. Voter Greg Wright, a Certified Fraud Examiner, alongside Attorney Jonathon Sturgill filed the official complaint last week.
Dr. John McGoff, a front running candidate in the race, responded to the breaking news, “I commend new Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson for investigating claims against David McIntosh. Her decision today defends 5th District voters to full disclosure of all information.”
In an interview today with reporter Norm Cox of WRTV6, Dr. McGoff called upon the other candidates in the 5th District Republican Primary to produce their Indiana State tax returns. McGoff stated, “Since last summer, I’ve been asking four important questions: where does David live? Where does the McIntosh family go to church? Where do his children go to school? And, where does he lay his head down at night? Today, I’m adding a fifth: where did McIntosh file his state tax returns?”
Tax returns, McGoff believes, are another measure of where one actually lives. “If McIntosh truly lives in Indiana, I would hope that he paid Indiana State taxes,” McGoff said.
The Secretary of State’s decision comes just days after Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings stated that he would not look further into the complaint until after the Republican Primary on May 8. Cummings reported that he believed the timing of the complaint suggests political motivation.
Lou Quinto, McGoff’s campaign manager, responded, “A concerned voter – not a political campaign – filed the complaints against McIntosh. In reality, Cummings inaction is politically motivated. The voters deserve all the information. If McIntosh is convicted of perjury or voter fraud, residents of the 5th District should know before they cast their votes. Cummings is denying Madison County and the entire 5th District the truth.”
McGoff reiterated Quinto’s point, “I encourage expediency in this case. Today, Secretary of State Connie Lawson stood up to protect 5th District voters. By taking up an investigation, she has committed herself to providing Hoosiers all the facts necessary to make an informed decision when electing their next Congressman.”
