The latest in a series of false attacks on Susan came today in mail and on radio from David McIntosh, our opponent who is under investigation by local and state officials for perjury and vote fraud.
McIntosh Accusation: Susan took a $20,000 taxpayer-funded "vacation" to Sweden while she served as Deputy Mayor of Indianapolis for Public Safety.
The Truth: In the summer of 1999, at the request of then-Mayor Steve Goldsmith, Susan joined a delegation of city and state officials to Stockholm, Sweden, the site of the 1999 World Police and Fire Games. The sole purpose of the trip was to observe and plan for the subsequent Games slated for Indianapolis in 2001. Susan and the Hoosier team worked hard every day of that trip, hand-in-hand with the officials of Stockholm Games, to learn the ropes and develop the public safety knowledge and expertise to host this elite international event here in Indiana.
Because of their hard work, in the summer of 2001, Indianapolis and its thousands of Hoosier volunteers hosted an outstanding event -- more than 10,000 police officers and firefighters from around the world came to central Indiana for an Olympic-style competition. In addition to being a point of enormous pride for the citizens of central Indiana, the economic impact of the event totaled millions of dollars, and the event was one of many precursors to the successful award of the Super Bowl LXVI to the city of Indianapolis.
David is continuing his pattern of dishonesty to voters. If he wants to talk about trips paid for by others, he should take the opportunity to explain the many trips he took when serving in Congress, resulting in the 3rd worst attendance record, as well as the more than $10,000 he has spent out of his campaign for travel to Indiana from his home in Virginia.
