It is clear over the last few days that Obama has no plan on running against Mitt Romney. Despite all of Romney’s shortcomings as a candidate – shortcomings that were exploited by a series of his GOP rivals during the primaries – Team Obama has decided to pass on running against Romney, choosing instead to run against the only candidate he knows how to run against: George W. Bush.
In 2008, Obama and his friends in the media skillfully portrayed John McCain as George W. Bush. John McCain was a lot of things – many of them not very conservative – but he was not George W. Bush. Four years later, it is clear that Obama wants to do the same thing to Mitt Romney. Never mind the fact that George W. Bush hasn’t been President for almost four years. Never mind the fact that President Obama had two years of unfettered control over all of the levers of power in Washington. Never mind the fact that it will be Mitt Romney’s name on the ballot, not George W. Bush’s name, Team Obama in all their infinite wisdom has decided to run against Bush – again.
