Man who lost hand to alligator charged with unlawful feeding

Talk about adding insult to injury: An Everglades tour guide who lost his hand to an alligator last month was arrested over the weekend, charged with unlawful alligator feeding.

Wallace Weatherholt, a 63-year-old airboat captain, was leading a tour on June 12 when the group encountered a 9-foot alligator. Passengers told the Fort Myers News-Press that Weatherholt "hung a fish over the side of the boat and had his hand at the water's surface when the alligator attacked."

Wildlife officials then tracked and killed the alligator, according to the paper. They "retrieved Weatherholt's hand from its stomach, but doctors were unable to reattach it."

Mourdock under fire, quotes Lincoln

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock is a student of Abraham Lincoln but his use of a Lincoln quote during a speech in Texas last night is raising some eyebrows.

Mourdock is under fire from Democrat Joe Donnelly for his efforts to stop the Chrysler bankruptcy. His defense of those efforts led him to use part of a Lincoln quote that also includes a reference to slavery. (see full quote below)

He was speaking to a Freedomworks audience in Dallas telling the conservative political action committee that he fought the Chrysler bankruptcy to stop the bankruptcy court from taking the pensions of retired teachers and state troopers. "So that someone else can be given their assets," he said. "It is the same tyrannical principle as in 1858."

Does Mike Pence want or deserve the label Teavangelical?

Editors note:  I  tweeted this, "Does Mike Pence want the label Teavangelical when John Gregg is claiming he is an extremist?"  This is based of Matt Lewis' interview with CBN's David Brody in the Daily Caller regarding his new book, "The Teavangelical".  It drew such a visceral reaction from some, we'll open it up for discussion.

David Brody, the Chief Political Correspondent for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), is out with a new book, arguing that evangelicals and libertarian-leaning conservatives can forge a long-term bond. And in The Teavangelicals, Brody envisions the culmination of a decades-long effort being the election of Rep. Mike Pence as the first “Teavangelical president.”

“I believe with all of my journalistic heart, ” Brody said during a recent conversation, “that Mike Pence has a real chance to be the first Teavangelical president in the United States.”

Pence, who is running for governor of Indiana, is someone Brody says is “respected by the mainstream media,” and someone who has “the fiscal package, the social package, the national security package.”

Ode to Abby D. Phillip as she moves to ABC News in NYC

I want to thank Gary Snyder Show team member and Politico Money & Politics reporter Abby D. Phillip as she takes a job at ABC News in New York City (can't blame her I guess).  I first met (actually the only face-to-face meeting) Abby in Kokomo, Indiana as she was there covering President Obama's visit to Chrysler for Politico.com.  I was standing in the press line and she asked if I could move my big head (later uttered by Joe Montana on the Notre Dame sideline, but that's a different story) so she could get a picture of the president.

I did move, but only under the condition she appears on my radio show as a weekly guest for her entire career, or at least until she gets a job at ABC News and the rest is history.  Abby has reported on the show from the basement of the White House but must best be remembered calling into the show from the White house lawn while being chased away by the Secret Service. Good luck Abby and don't be a stranger!

Dan Parker issues statement about Bauer's removal

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker issued the following statement regarding the caucus meeting today where Indiana House Democrats elected State Rep. Linda Lawson as House Democratic Leader:

"In accordance with today's vote, we congratulate Rep. Lawson as the new leader of the House Democratic caucus. A majority of the members of the caucus have spoken. We respect their decision, and we will support Rep. Lawson as she leads the caucus forward.

"We also want to salute former House Democratic Leader Pat Bauer for his service to the caucus and at the Statehouse. He has been a strong voice for our party during both prosperous and difficult times, and he has always advocated for working Hoosiers.

"We remain focused first and foremost on electing more Democrats to the Indiana House in November and beyond. INDIANAPOLIS - It had been nine years since Mike Pence had run and brawled for a Congressional seat, twice unsuccessfully challenging U.S. Rep. Phil Sharp.

His friend, U.S. Rep. David McIntosh, was planning to run for governor. What became the 6th CD would be open. At his gubernatorial campaign kickoff in Columbus in June 2011, Pence recalled a vacation horseback ride in Colorado in 1999 when he pondered a return to Congressional politics with his wife, Karen. The couple spotted two red-tailed hawks drafting in the winds above the mountains. He would run once more, they decided, but “no flapping.” They would “soar.”

Pence releases new ad: Job one

The results say: Hey Tom Wall, what happened?

With just over 1200 votes cast in our online poll, 78% of you believe it's time for Tom Wall, President of the Huntington County Commissioners, to come clean about the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him.  We know there was a state police investigation (still waiting to see shat comes of that) and there is the possibility of civil action by the women, so wouldn't you like to know what happened before you decide to vote for him in the fall?  Oddly enough (or maybe not), where are the calls from his own party or other elected officials for answers?

Should Tom Wall, President of the Huntington County Commissioners, address the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him before the general election?
