Jet skis. Rounds of golf played. Dogs transported and consumed. Yes, the silly season is upon us as the two major political parties attempt to cast each other’s opponents in a negative light in this year’s presidential election. Much of it farcical and of minimal importance to the average voter while some of the claims are outright fabrications and distortions.
Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s tenure at the venture capital firm he helped co-found, Bain Capital, continues to be cited by detractors as a negative indicator of both his job creation record and performance as a business executive.
One small problem. The nearly half-dozen companies that opponents routinely cite as negative examples occurred years after he left Bain in 1999. Some of the inaccuracies and distortions are staggering, but nevertheless make it into the news reporting on the topic.
