PENDLETON, IN — Candidate for U.S. Congress in Indiana’s 5th District Scott Reske today responded to U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s trip to the 5th District to campaign for Susan Brooks.
Cantor will be in Carmel, Ind. later today to host a birthday party and high-dollar fundraiser for Brooks.
“Eric Cantor, a member of Congress from another state who is determined to undermine Social Security and Medicare, will be here later today to campaign for my opponent,” said Reske. “His visit highlights the stark differences between my opponent and me.”
Reske said that Cantor represents the very essence of doing business as an insider in the halls of Congress.
“Unfortunately, both Cantor and Susan Brooks have expressed their support for the Ryan Plan, which would dismantle Social Security and move Medicare to a voucher system,” said Reske. “I will work to protect Social Security and Medicare.
“Cantor’s efforts in Congress put the economic security and health of our seniors and retirees, and future retirees, at risk. I support efforts to reduce our deficit and balance the budget, but this shouldn’t be done on the backs of our seniors.
“While my opponent and her DC-based friends will wine and dine tonight in support of the partisanship in Washington, Congressman Cantor still has not pushed for a vote on the Farm Bill- --a bill Indiana farmers need,” said Reske.
“While my opponent and her friends enjoy receiving checks from those who play the DC "game”, Congressman Cantor and his allies still have not addressed jobs and how to stop the outsourcing of American jobs.
“Too many put party before people and our country. I am running to change Washington and the best way to start is by electing a new member that will put people before politics.”
Scott Reske is an Iraq War veteran and retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel, who served as a helicopter pilot while on active duty. He has served his community as an Indiana State Representative, a volunteer firefighter and as a reserve deputy sheriff with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Reske is an experienced business owner, who lives in Pendleton with his wife, Jenny, and three children.
