Do you remember this headline, Official rejects calls to quit over e-mails? Apparently some of our elected Republican officials don't? I think they even forget what they were asking for when then Huntington County Commissioner Jerry Helvie asked an employee to "snoop" into a few email accounts. And if I remember correctly, and I do, there was a petition presented to a special meeting of the Huntington County Commissioners asking for a Helvie's resignation, even before the state police were finished with their investigation and criminal charges were filed (which there weren't any).
County Treasurer Cindy Yeiter read a letter, signed by a number of county officials, including Hurlburt and Sheriff Kent Farthing, asking for Helvie to step down. - JG.net
So I guess my question to Huntington County Auditor Cindy Yeiter, Huntington County Commissioner Leon Hurlburt, former Huntington County Recorder and current Huntington County GOP Chair Angie Garner and the rest of the "number of county officials (and you know who you are)" who were calling for the resignation of Helvie over some "hacked emails' (which no criminal charges were ever filed), where is the outrage now over an indicted Huntington County Commissioner Tom Wall?
Are we to assume selective outrage? After all, those were private emails (not really) of elected officials Helvie was accused of breaching, whereas, Tom Wall was only indicted on 7 counts of inappropriately touching someone elses daughter/mother/wife. Would there be the outrage and calls to resign if Tom was indicted on 7 counts of battery (inappropriately touching two women) against an "elected officials" daughter/mother/wife? I guess there is only outrage if it happens to you? To quote Sarah Palin and I really hate to, "You Betcha"!
Huntington County Republicans, continuing to set the standard for political cowardness!

Gary, there is one major difference in these two situations. Jerry Helvie admitted his involvment, while Tom Wall has maintained his innocence. After Tom has his day in court and given a chance to defend himself you'll most likely see some statements. The Helvie/Wall situations are very different in this regard

Ryder,
At the time, Helvie was under state police investigation in which no charges were filed. Helvie admitted asking Snelling to do it but claimed he had authority to do so as commissioner. And still the call for a resigination. Tom Wall has been indicted by a grand jury on 7 counts of battery (inappropriately touching 2 women). We have the real possiblity of the indicted commissioner could win and a high probability of him being convicted (95% plus conviction rate). Are you so party blind you would support Tom Wall under these circumstances? How embarrassing!

G, I am not embarrassed by anything that I wrote. I did not endorse or support either candidate in my statement, merely pointed out some important differences in these two cases. Are you so blindly aganst the GOP or Tom Wall that you would rush to judgment or vote without the hearing all the facts? That's not embarrassing it's irresponsible.

Are you defending Helvie? Really???? A Commissioner has one vote, they need a second vote from another Commissioner to act. Helvie acted alone, and got a subordinate fired for it. He admitted his involvment and stayed despite calls for his resignation.
Wall may or may not be innocent. But defending Helvie? Now that's embarrassing.
